I was just getting ready to call it a day last night around 11:30pm…and when my head hit the pillow, the thinking portion of my brain called out: “Hey…weren’t you supposed to put together another giveaway for the blog?”
So I apologize for not having this post up earlier. I did hint last week about another contest, and I hate going back on my word. This week, I have a copy of the Radio Spirits The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes CD collection, Strange and Singular Affairs, to hand out to some lucky member of the Thrilling Days of Yesteryear faithful. It’s an eight-disc set, with sixteen vintage broadcasts from 1945/1946 spotlighting the world’s greatest consulting detective, memorialized by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
These shows are from the last season that actor Basil Rathbone played Holmes on radio; it would also be the same year (1946) in which he made his final feature film in Universal’s most profitable movie franchise. On radio, Rathbone was replaced by the movie’s “Falcon,” Tom Conway in the fall, and while Nigel Bruce continued on as Dr. Watson (he got a little financial incentive to stay with the organization) by the end of the 1946-47 season Bruce decided he wanted out as well.
Here are the rules for the giveaway:
1) Send an e-mail with “Strange and Singular” in the subject header to igsjrotr(at)gmail(dot)com. You have until 11:59pm EST on June 1, 2019 (next Saturday) to enter. You don’t have to give me all of your personal information to enter (height, weight, likes, dislikes) if you’re concerned about privacy issues but if I do pick your name I’ll need snail-mail details so I can mail out your prize.
2) You will need to be a resident of either the U.S. or Canada to participate. I’m very pleased that the reaction to my eBay auctions has been so positive (watch as how I subtly slip in a mention via this link) but I’m still not at the level where I can spend enormous amounts of money for postage outside these two areas. I’m already courting danger by agreeing to ship to Canada; I may be out of Smock Lady’s jurisdiction but she has agents everywhere.
3) If you’ve been a previous winner in a TDOY giveaway, please consider waiting thirty days before entering another so that someone without your phenomenal streak of good fortune gets a chance to win some swag. We can play a good game and still keep our uniforms clean, can we not?
4) I will choose a winner (via the Random Number Generator at Random.org) the morning of June 2 and inform the lucky individual via e-mail. And then…a mention on the blog that they are the winner! Who knows what will follow? A role on a television reality show and further fame and fortune? A cushy YouTube gig? The sky’s the limit!
Strange and SIngular Affairs will make a wonderful gift for that OTR-loving family member in your life…or if you’re a dedicated Baker Street Irregular, you’ll want to keep it for your own. (No one will judge you if you do.) But you can’t win if you don’t enter! And remember, as always: Thrilling Days of Yesteryear is the phrase that pays!
